Welsh Gravity Enduro Series, rnd. 4 and final round of Winter/Spring Series at Eastridge

Having only ever ridden Eastridge in very wet to damp conditions, it was a pleasant change to have the stages all dry and very dusty in places. But it meant that it was also very rocky and hard packed!

Stage 1 was a bit of a pedal fest with very little flow and some tight exit corners which seemed to catch everyone out who carried to much speed in! The final part was much more gravity assisted fun, but too many mistakes meant a re-run was needed later in the day, which I improved by nearly 3 seconds.

Stage 2 was a sharp rock strewn start from the felled area, very difficult to find any speed and proper lines and also difficult to get the pedals down for fear of pedal strikes! Once back into the woods I could build speed and pick any lines across the large root clusters as it was so dry. Again, two runs of this stage was needed to correct first run mistakes.

Stage 3 was by far my favourite, using the Student Champs Black trail, it starts at the top in the woods as a fast flowing single track with some nice small double jumps thrown in, then across the fire roads straight into the steep black graded loose rock and tree stump infested area full of off camber drop-in corners made even harder by the dust powder that had collected on them. Then across the bottom fire road and flat out into the field run, jump the stream and then an uphill field sprint to the finish line arena.

Not really feeling strong for this race (possibly from too much riding) meant that I couldn’t push as hard as I needed to be able to be up with some very fast locals so an 8th place is all I could manage, but it was enough to give me a 2nd overall for the championship and my best series result to date!! So, I was more than happy with that!...... Tidy like.
